At Normative, we’re working to make net zero emissions the new norm for business. But creating the norm is also about leading by example. That’s why we’ve set our own climate target: to reach net zero emissions by 2030.

Our new report presents Normative’s emissions data story, covering our 2021 emissions broken down by origin.

Why did we decide to measure and report our emissions?

Normative is no different than any other business. We see great benefits in building an accurate accounting of our carbon emissions – because it is the right thing to do. Only what is measured gets managed. But there are also significant risks if we don’t. We decided to build our first report of carbon metrics in order to:

  • Lead by example – There is no perfect map to net zero. Every business will try new things and experiment – and we will all learn from each other. At Normative, we want to share what we’re working on and the lessons we learn so that we can build that map to net zero, together.
  • Build our company culture – We want to recruit and retain smart, innovative people who are passionate about climate. Tracking and reporting on our emissions transparently will demonstrate our commitment to change.
  • Meet investor expectations – Like other investors, banks, and financial institutions around the world, our investors are looking towards the carbon reporting and reduction requirements on the horizon and asking all of the companies in their portfolios to develop and implement carbon accounting and reduction plans.

Normative’s net zero journey

Normative has committed to the UN’s Race to Zero campaign with a target to reach net zero by 2030. With this commitment in mind, Normative is developing a detailed reduction plan to ensure progress, which will be reported annually.

Most of Normative’s emissions are in scope 3. Within scope 3, purchased goods and services make up the largest share. In particular, office rental space, professional services, and IT equipment are some of the largest categories.
