2021 will be a crucial year for our planet.
Last month New Zealand passed a pioneering law making it mandatory for financial institutions to report on their climate impact. Meanwhile the EU implemented a taxonomy for sustainable finance, that will steer massive flows of capital towards sustainable companies.
Investment in climate tech startups reached $17 billion in 2020, and new players are getting onto the stage, from Jeff Bezos’ $10 billion Earth Fund to Google.org Impact Challenge on Climate who recently selected Normative as a grantee.
We started Normative to make known the sustainability impact of all economic activities on the planet. We build technology to improve human lives and to help companies around the world achieve net zero emissions, “what doesn’t get measured, doesn’t get reduced”. It’s a bold vision, and one that attracts people who want to make a difference.
One of these extraordinary people is Kasper Hulthin, a serial entrepreneur who co-founded companies like Podio and Peakon, recently acquired for $700 million. Kasper has been working with us for a while, providing feedback on our strategy and helping us scale the team and I am happy to announce that he will join Normative as chairman of the board.
Kasper has been through rapid growth stages before, building winning teams in every company he’s been part of. With his help, we will scale up our emission accounting engine and expand our operations to new markets.
Joining Kasper on our board is US- based Sierra Peterson, investor, executive and policymaker. Sierra worked in market-driven climate protection since 2005, serving with the International Energy Agency and the Obama-era White House Office of Energy and Climate Change.
She created and led top-performing teams in technology companies and is now an investor in climate startups that have the potential to shape the future of the planet. As a board member, Sierra will be instrumental in helping us grow and help others reduce their emissions.
I am excited for the incredible journey ahead of us, and I can’t wait to welcome more gifted and dedicated people like Kasper and Sierra to join us on our mission.
If this inspires you and you want to make a difference, why not join our team?
