OptiGroup strengthens its climate strategy with science-based targets and robust emissions data
A steady journey from data foundation to validated climate targets
Executive summary
In 2024, OptiGroup partnered with Normative to enhance its emissions data management and deepen understanding of its climate impact across operations. With more than 98% of its emissions coming from Scope 3, the collaboration focused on establishing a reliable data foundation to enable accurate and transparent reporting. Through a structured approach and proactive project leadership from Normative’s Climate Strategy Advisor, OptiGroup accelerated its timeline, submitting its science-based targets by June 2025 instead of the originally planned end of 2026. Today, the company is strengthening its data and supplier engagement, with a goal for 81% of suppliers, based on emissions, from purchased goods and services, to have science-based targets by 2030.
About OptiGroup
OptiGroup is a European distribution group providing supply solutions to customers in the cleaning & facility management, hotels & restaurant, healthcare, transport, manufacturing, and printing sectors. With roots in the forest industry, biobased materials and sustainability have long been part of the company’s operations. OptiGroup’s sustainability work began years before current regulations emerged, grounded in responsible sourcing, efficient distribution, and long-term environmental performance.
Building the data backbone for science-aligned targets
As a wholesaler managing thousands of products and suppliers across multiple subsidiaries, OptiGroup faces a complex emissions profile. More than 98% of its footprint comes from Scope 3, primarily linked to purchased goods and services. Measuring and managing these emissions requires structured, consistent data and collaboration across the value chain.
To address this, OptiGroup partnered with Normative in July 2024 to strengthen its emissions data foundation and improve the quality and consistency of its reporting. Consolidating existing data within Normative helped visualize emissions data in an accessible and comprehensible way across OptiGroup’s decentralized organization, enhancing internal understanding and usability.
“The process was smoother and faster than expected. Normative’s reliable and user-friendly platform gave us clear insights into our emissions data and the confidence to act, showing a 13% reduction from 2022 to 2024 for OptiGroup.”
Sana Saleem, Head of Sustainability BA FSM & Packaging at OptiGroup AB
Submitting science-based targets
OptiGroup committed to SBTi at the end of 2024 and, with support from Normative’s data and guidance, submitted its targets for validation in 2025. The submission represents a key milestone in aligning OptiGroup’s climate ambitions with recognized global standards and reinforces credibility with customers and internal stakeholders.
“Normative gave us the structure and confidence to move from data collection to validated science-based targets. The collaboration made a complex process both faster and more reliable.”
Sana Saleem, Head of Sustainability BA FSM & Packaging at OptiGroup AB
Turning commitments into continued progress
With its targets submitted, OptiGroup is focused on turning commitments into measurable outcomes. The company continues to refine data quality, strengthen supplier engagement, and align reporting with evolving requirements such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Building on the established data backbone, OptiGroup now uses Normative to track performance trends and maintain progress toward long-term climate goals. This steady, data-driven approach reflects OptiGroup’s commitment to transparency, credibility, and continuous improvement across its value chain.
