At Normative, we’re not only helping businesses reach net zero with our leading carbon accounting platform – we’re working to reach net zero ourselves.

We’re proud to announce that our climate target has been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Normative’s approved target

Net-zero target: Reduce scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 90% by 2030 from a 2023 base year

To set this target, we used our own software to calculate our emissions and drew from the expertise of our own Climate Strategy team – which has a 100% success record when helping businesses get targets validated by SBTi.

This target was approved using a streamlined target validation route exclusive to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Our target was not picked at random: our commitment to reach net zero by 2030 is in line with the Paris Agreement goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

By committing to large emissions emissions reductions across all scopes of our operations and value chain, we are aiming to both do our part to mitigate climate change and to lead by example.

Getting to net zero

Normative’s net-zero plan includes six key actions, targeting our most significant emissions sources:

  1. Engage with suppliers: Collaborating closely with top suppliers to gather more accurate emissions data and guide them towards sustainable practices.

  2. Use renewable & energy-efficient servers: Prioritizing hosting services that run on renewable energy and optimizing system development for energy efficiency.

  3. Minimize carbon-intensive travel: Promoting a digital meeting culture and opting for low-carbon transport modes when travel is necessary.

  4. Prefer vegan food: Choosing vegan options whenever possible to reduce emissions associated with animal agriculture.

  5. Implement circular economy & lease equipment: Promoting sustainable practices in procurement and disposal of equipment, prioritizing reuse and recycling.

  6. Ensure renewable & energy-efficient offices: Using office spaces that follow BREEAM and LEED certification standards to minimize environmental impact.

We have a particular emphasis on reducing scope 3 emissions, which account for 97.67% of Normative’s total carbon footprint.
